Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Defensive Tactics
Training was developed specifically to meet
the training and operational needs of the
law enforcement officer. Working with law
enforcement professionals, the
Controlled F.O.R.C.E. development team created a
comprehensive system of controlled defense
that addresses a variety of concerns in law
enforcement training. Some of the concerns
considered in the development of
Controlled F.O.R.C.E. include liability,
ease-of-use & retention, and cost
efficiency.

Liability
Causing undue injury or death to a suspect
is a costly mistake that can result in civil
and/or criminal lawsuits against the
officer(s), the department, and the
municipality. These lawsuits often become
far more expensive to settle than it would
have originally cost to improve a
department’s training program. During the
creation of Controlled F.O.R.C.E., the
development team looked at what mistakes
officers and departments were making at the
training level, and how those mistakes could
be corrected in an easy-to-use training
program.
First, the development team found that most
of a department’s training time and money is
spent on firearms training. Contrary to this
trend, statistics prove that most police
confrontations involve restraint without the
use of firearms. Second, the team found that
most department’s were over-utilizing
pain-compliance techniques without properly
addressing excessive force and de-escalation
concepts.
To address the failure-to-train and
excessive force issues that most liability
lawsuits stem from, the development team
created a two-pronged approach to liability
reduction:
1. Training. Controlled F.O.R.C.E. utilizes
mechanical advantage, body momentum, joint
manipulation, and leverage. None of our
tactics use pain as a control measure and we
do not teach strikes. Because of this, our
training gives the officer the skills needed
to control and detain a suspect with greatly
reduced risk of injury to both the officer
and the offender.
2. Certification & Documentation. All
Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Training includes
either end user or instructor certification
as well as CD-ROM Training Manuals that
fully document the course. Should any aspect
of a Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Certified
Officer’s defensive tactics training come
into question, that officer and his or her
department will have adequate documentation
proving what techniques the officer has or
has not been trained in.
For the same reasons that Controlled
F.O.R.C.E. reduces the risk of injury in the
field, it also reduces injury in training.
So not only has a department utilizing
Controlled F.O.R.C.E. greatly reduced the
risk of liability lawsuit, it has also
reduced the amount of worker compensation it
pays for officers injured in training or in
the field.

Ease-of-Use & Retention
It is important that a department’s system
of training can be easily used by all
officers regardless of size, strength, or
experience. While many officers enter the
law enforcement profession with some
training experience, such as military
experience, most new officers do not have a
satisfactory level of skill in defensive
tactics or knowledge of how to manually
control a suspect. Unfortunately, the
control techniques that officers learn at
academy are often the only skills they
acquire in their entire career, with the
exception of periodic refresher courses that
may or may not coincide with what they
already know.
Controlled F.O.R.C.E. understands that
officers are afforded limited training time
each year, and that they must make the most
of the time they are allotted. For this
reason, we developed the five Mechanical
Advantage Control Holds™. From these five
simple control holds, officers can generate
250 combinations of controlled defense - in
just a matter of minutes. What’s more, all
of our M.A.C.H. techniques are based on
common holds that officers are already
familiar with. We simply packaged the
techniques into a system that interchanges
fluidly from one hold to the next, and
adapts completely to all other systems.
Any training program is useless if its
techniques cannot be remembered in an actual
altercation. Low retention rates of training
in real situations often results in
unnecessary escalation of force because the
officer will panic in a fight and revert to
untrained responses. By basing our system on
techniques that officers are already
familiar with, but packaging them in a way
that makes sense for all skill levels,
Controlled F.O.R.C.E. has ensured that its
training supports a high retention rate. And
since all of our training is backed-up by
our comprehensive CD-ROM Training Manuals,
certified officers have an indispensable
tool for maintaining and improving their
perishable skills.
